Tragic Typhoon Ompong that Hits the City of Baguio

It’s been a few weeks since typhoon “Ompong” hits the summer capital of the Philippines, Baguio City. Unlike the other previous super typhoons that hits Northern Luzon in the past years, this one had totally left a lot of damages and casualties.

According to the news report, there were 66 dead and 66 missing. This number sounds really creepy because it is composed with the number of the beast.

Before typhoon Ompong hits the city of Baguio, our family dog kept on howling randomly which was either during the day or night.

A dog who constantly howl is actually considered by many individuals as a “bad omen”. Old folks claims that it signifies death. In other words, someone is about to die.

But during that situation, our dog was howling so terribly that it really worried us so much that it could be a health related issue.

When typhoon Ompong came and passed with its violent force of nature, the entire Cordillera Region got decimated where it ruined a lot of electrical posts. This put me on several days of vacation mode because without electricity and internet, I cannot continue my work.

Super Typhoon

Other than the damages, nearby our place is a part of Itogon. The place is called, “Ucab” where one entire Barangay suffered from a catastrophic landslide. When this happened, helicopters kept on flying above us travelling back and forth.

At that time when the tragedy had occurred, we had no idea why. The only reason we know about was that, President Rodrigo Duterte was coming to visit Baguio City. Thus, we first thought that the helicopters could be his escorts.

But what actually happened was that, the landslide that occurred in Ucab took a lot of lives. No one really knows the exact number of the victims. The numbers that they released on the news was just an estimate.

Going back to our family dog, it made us realize that those howling were for those dead people. It is actually believe by many that dogs or any kind of animals can see the souls of the dead. The only difference is that dogs tends to howl which seems like a way of sending their condolences.

Today, our dog finally stopped howling where it is a huge relief that it isn’t related to a health issue.

Lesson Learned from Typhoon Ompong

In my own personal opinion, we should always prepare for the worse when a typhoon is about to hit our country. We may say that our places remain standing still despite all the previous typhoons that passed, there is still no guarantee that you can say it’s always safe.

Thus, if your place got the potential risk of a land slide then it is best to temporarily relocate yourself and your family to a much safer place.

And above all, don’t forget about your prayers. Your prayers really do help a lot than what you can realize.
