Today, if you are applying for something to a certain private organization or government institution, they often ask you to provide at least two valid ID’s as a part of their requirement.
You have to know that not all ID’s can be accepted. Only ID’s that are issued by the government are widely acceptable in the country.
As an example, opening a bank account requires you to present two valid ID’s which are to be used in verifying your identity.
Now, here is the following list of acceptable valid ID’s here in the Philippines:
1. Driver’s License
One of the valid ID’s that I own is a driver’s license. To acquire this ID, you need to visit the nearest LTO (Land and Transportation Office) in your place then apply. Then, prepare for the exams (written, actual, and medical).
2. Philippine Passport
Acquiring a Philippine Passport is a lot easier than the driver’s license because there are no exams or testing involve. All you have to do is to accomplish all the necessary requirements and you are good to go.
If it is your first time to apply for a Philippine Passport then you should visit the website of the DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs). On their website, you can arrange a schedule for an appointment.
3. SSS UMID ID
If you are an employee then you are already familiar about the SSS (Social Security System). They actually issue a UMID (Unified Multi-Purpose) ID to all of their members.
The only issue which is based on my personal experience is that, it takes a long period of time before you can claim your SSS UMID ID.
4. Postal ID
Postal ID is perhaps the easiest type of government ID that you can have. If you still do not have a postal ID and you want to get one then you have to visit your nearest PHILPost office.
Here at Baguio, our PHILPost office is pretty much dead. It’s because almost no one today are using the traditional mail. This makes applying for a postal ID takes three months to be processed.
5. PRC ID
If you have a professional degree (such as engineers, doctors, teachers, accountant, and etc…) particularly those with board exams, you will be issued a PRC ID by the Professional Regulation Commission provided that you passed the board exam.
6. TIN ID
TIN ID is perhaps the best acceptable ID that you may want to have. The reason is that, it does not expire which saves you the hassle of renewals.
You can apply for a Tax Identification Number ID at your nearest Bureau of Internal Revenue.
7. Voter’s ID
If you are now at the right age where you can participate as a registered voter then you should definitely need to get your own voter’s ID. To apply for this type of ID, you need to visit the nearest COMELEC Office in your place.
8. OFW ID
As an OFW, you can get your own OFW ID by visiting the office of DOLE (Department of Labor and Employment). Alternatively, you can also visit their website and process your application online.
Some of you might ask, “how about the National ID?”
I am actually in favor of the National ID because it is one single ID that can completely verify your identity. This means, all other ID’s will soon be rendered useless because it can be used as a valid replacement for most other ID’s such as the voter’s ID.
So even if you do not have a voter’s ID but you have a national ID, you can still vote.
However, I have not added the national ID on the list above because it is not yet fully implemented here in the entire Philippines.
If it happens that your current status does meet any of the requirement in obtaining any of the valid ID’s mentioned above then do not worry. There are secondary valid ID’s that you can apply with little to no requirements.
So here they are;
Conclusion
It is always a good idea to own at least two valid ID’s that we covered on this post. Unless, the national ID gets’ officially released.
What’s the reason why?
You may actually never know the time when you importantly need them. One good example is when a good job opportunity presents itself.
Take note, applying for any of the valid ID’s do takes plenty of time.
