How to Remove Popular Site Icons in your Android Google Chrome Browser

Google keeps on doing their best to improve all their services for the sake of satisfying their customers. One of their most popular services is their Google Chrome browser which is available for both desktop and mobile phone users.

Some users do love the updates made by Google but unfortunately, not everyone like it.

One of this update is the popular sites or websites that you often visit are being listed on Google’s Chrome homepage. You will see them listed in the form of favicon or small icons just below the search box. This actually makes your favorite websites easy and quick to access.

By default, this feature is enable but if you do not like it, you can actually disable it. Clearing your browsing history and data does not work. At the time of this post, you can only disable it effectively on Google Chrome’s URLS page.

Here are the following steps on how you can disable it:

Step 1: On your Google Chrome’s address bar, enter this code chrome://chrome-urls

Step 2: Entering the code from the first step will present you a long list of URLS. Among these list, you need to search chrome://flags

Step 3: Now, search on the filtered list the setting for “Show popular sites on the New Tab page Android”

Step 4: Tap on the drop down menu and select Disable

Step: After disabling the setting, you need to restart your browser for the whole new settings that you made to apply the necessary changes.

If you find those five steps quite complicated to follow then I would like to suggest using this one. Just copy the entire URL below and then paste it into your address bar.

Chrome://flags/#enable-ntp-popular-sites

Assuming that you have already restarted your Google Chrome, the list of websites on your homepage should have disappeared. Otherwise, something went wrong where I suggest repeating the whole procedure again for the second time.

Moreover, if you do not want to completely disable the feature where you only want to remove certain particular sites that you do not like, this can be done by “tap-and-hold” method. Simply tap on the icon of the website that you do not like showing up from your homepage, then hold it and remove.

If you still have some trouble disabling the popular sites on your browser, feel free to comment your issue down below. Perhaps, I might be able to help.
