After watching the super martial arts action movie "Dragonwolf", I felt very exhausted with all of those fast movement of the camera. It really made me slightly dizzy that I had to take a rest. So on the next movie that I watched, I had chosen a romantic story.
After several searches on the internet, I finally came across the movie entitled "Begin Again" (2013). I had chosen this movie due to its high rating at IMDB which is currently (from the time of this post) at 7.5/10 from 72,096 users. Aside from the rating, I also saw Adam Levine as one of the cast of actors. My favorite judge in the talent singing contest in the US called, "The Voice".
This was a story of a two couple who both had passion in the music industry. They were "Gretta" (Keira Knightley) and "Dave" (Adam Levine) who already had a long-term relationship that the bond between the two seems unbreakable. Their professions were both talented songwriters and singers. However, things had changed when both partners went to New York when Dave was offered a major deal of label. As a result, Dave went astray when he started gaining huge fame where he left Gretta on her own.
On the other side of the story, there was this one lousy guy who was divorced by his wife and just got fired out of his job. His name was "Dan" (Mark Ruffalo) who also works on a music industry as a producer. Dan used to be the top and famous producer in the past but now, he lost that kind of fame. His reason was that, he couldn't just find the perfect artist until at the bar where he unexpectedly met Gretta singing.
Gretta was supposed to go back home when she was invited by her friend to a bar. There she was forced by her friend to sing in front of the audience. Unfortunately, most of them ignored her singing where they started to chatting around. But, there was this one guy who suddenly got interested.
Upon recognizing the talent of Gretta from singing her song at the bar, Dan offered her to produce her song. From this onward, the two started working together.
Going back into Gretta and Dave's love affair, Dave had finally came back for Gretta. He said sorry and wanted their relationship back. Dave even claimed that he was willing to do anything for Gretta just to get their relationship back. So as Gretta's condition, she wanted Dave to sing the song that she composed for them. He had to sing the song meant for them and not for the audience.
Dave then invited Gretta on his live concert. And there, he will sing their song.
Gretta was so excited that she was very happy to see her ex-boyfriend perform their song on a live-concert full of people. She was able to get into the concert with her bicycle and watched Dave behind the back stage. Dave even invited her to play one of the instruments if she wants.
As Dave sang the song, it goes just fine from the beginning where Gretta was smiling back to Dave. But as the song goes on, it changes into Dave's version. This made the girl from the back stage deeply frowned and cried as she left the concert stadium.
Due to what happened to Gretta, she had decided to meet Dan and changed her mind not to produce her album from the company where he works. She wants it to be shared on the internet and so they did.
There were some funny part of the movie that really made me laugh especially the part when Dan asked Gretta her reason why she write her songs. Well yeah, it's all about pleasure and her cat.
The whole plot of the story is interesting but it wasn't that too romantic as I am expecting. It wasn't a love story after all because they suddenly don't agree with one another until to the end of the movie. It's not like any typical or ordinary movie where it has a nice love story ending.
As for Dan, I am also expecting a more good story ending on his side. Well, through the help of Gretta, he was able to draw a closer relationship to his wife and daughter. However, he still remain jobless at the end where he was fired again by his boss "Saul" for the second time. It's time to go back to the bar and drink again. But maybe not, he's just too lucky to have a good friend "Troublegum" (CeeLo Green) who is always willing to help him out.
Overall, Begin Again is a movie that features the lives of people behind the music industry. Artists composed their songs out of their actual experiences or anything relating to their lives.
Okay, time for me to pick-up my guitar and practice singing because I just got motivated by this movie.
